New figures indicate that half of first marriages end in divorce. It has been said before that half of that half end in the first five years of marriage. That would be twenty-five percent of all first marriages ending in the first five years.
When we go on to second marriages, the failure rate becomes sixty-five to seventy percent for failures. As to third marriages, almost seventy-five percent end in divorce.
Thinking about all of this, one should be cognizant of the fact that a prenuptial agreement, should be considered before marriage. Prenuptial agreements or “antenuptial” agreements can work to protect interests in premarital property and interests.
Consideration of prenuptial agreements becomes more important if one has children from a prior marriage and there are certain assets which must be protected or kept separate for those children.
